Are you a smile behind depression? If so, you are not alone and most people understand. There is great pressure on us to be all you can be. When we feel we aren’t passing the test, it is easy to feel down.
If you are dealing with hard times, it’s very difficult to know what to do next. Knowing who to go to with the right advice and support is sometimes just as stressful. Feeling embarrassed doesn’t make the situation easier.
We have all been there many times in our lives and take our distress inward in a way that is unhealthy.
Does the smile mean you are faking it or lying to yourself? Or are you just using it as a cover until you work out your difficulties?
Do you feel like you’ve been putting on that smile far too long? Are you afraid to stop smiling? What would others say to you if you told them how distressed you were actually feeling? Would they abandon you? Should we avoid being open with others because of these possibilities?
There are so many questions behind the smile. It’s easy to go on auto-pilot and keep the smile going.
It keeps others at ease when you keep smiling. But easy isn’t always healthy…
